Faculty Resources

A guide made specifically for faculty, including library instruction, plagiarism education, and more!

About the Reserve Collection

Purpose

The purpose of the Reserve Collection is twofold:

  1. To make selected high-use materials accessible to as many patrons as possible.
  2. To provide a copy of each required textbook to the students and faculty of the Aultman College community. The list is attained once a year and all books are purchased and placed in the collection.

The collection is non-circulating and only available in the library. If you would like a resource added, please fill out the form below and contact the librarian for any article requests, as copyright needs to be taken into account.

Guidelines

Library materials and personal copies of items may be placed on reserve.

It will take us 24 hours to have materials ready for students to check out.

We review our reserves each Fall and Spring semester. If you wish materials to be left on reserve for the next semester, please indicate so on the Reserve Request form. If we don't hear from you, we will return the items at the end of the semester.

Using Persistent Links in the LMS

What's a persistent link?

  • A persistent link is a URL that remains static (does not change).
  • Many library resources provide persistent links (also called permalinks or permanent URLs) to specific items.
  • These links are almost always separate from the URL you see in the browser's address bar, as these URLs are temporary and change every time you visit a database or other resource.

Why link to library resources in the LMS?

  • Make readings and reference materials readily accessible to students
  • Reduce student and faculty cost of course materials by utilizing resources already licensed by the library
  • Introduce students to a wider web of information related to course content
  • Reduce the risk of copyright infringement and expedite the process of providing copyrighted material to students

Retrieving links

  • In most databases and catalogs, persistent links can be retrieved directly from the item record. For example, permalinks in EBSCO databases and the Discovery Tool can be found on the left-hand side of the screen when viewing an item record.
  • Clicking on "Permalink" will open a field at the top of the record where the persistent link can be copied.

Adding links to the LMS

  • Links can be added to the LMS by adding a URL to the main page of the course or by adding a hyperlink to when using the rich text editor. The Distance Education modules created by IT in the LMS include instructions on adding links to a course.
  • When students click this link, they will be directed to the item record. They will be automatically prompted to authenticate with their library ID, so this link is secure and cannot be accessed by outside parties.
