Evidence-Based Practice

An introductory guide to EBP and gathering evidence.

What is Evidence-Based Practice?

Welcome to the Evidence-Based Practice guide!

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the conscientious use of current best evidence in making decisions about patient care (Sackett et al., 2000).

There are five main steps to evidence-based practice (some sources may list them differently):

  1. Ask
  2. Acquire
  3. Appraise
  4. Apply
  5. Assess

This guide will cover steps 1-3. Steps 4-5 take place in clinical settings.
